I have just found this very interesting site which lists all the ships, with dates that have been laid up in the River Blackwater
I was very surprised to find a ship that I had sailed on, GANDARA, had originally been laid up there direct from the builders yard!
Perhaps in the current economic climate, we shall see a few more ships added to the list in the near future. |

| A very interesting site - I can remember days out in Maldon and seeing the Trinity House vessel, Siren. I had no idea that many ex Parkeston ships had found their way to the Blackwater. The pictures of the train ferries brought back fond memories. The River Tees in the North East has recently seen 2 lay ups due to the downturn in trade. I believe shipowners look for estuaries in which to lay up vessels as the brackish water does not do so much damage. |
